On July 25, 2009 my wife Crystal and I were married in a small ceremony in Shelby Township, MI. I am an avid professional football fan with an allegiance to the Buffalo Bills, but I'm living in Detroit. I've always had a special affinity toward my professional sports franchise and as such, I wanted the franchise itself to be a part of our special day. We decided that the best way to do this was to have a sports themed wedding. I had heard about themed weddings before, Star Wars themed weddings, movie themed weddings, medieval weddings. Everyone has their own way of incorporating their hobby or special interest into their wedding day. Fortunately I have a very understanding wife, as Crystal agreed to proceeding with my vision, and we began the several month process of wedding planning. Early on in the process we found that there were very few sports themed wedding websites and even fewer football themed wedding websites. So with little to work off of, we turned to friends and family for ideas along with our own creative musings. What we decided upon more than entertained our family and friends and impressed everyone that took part in our wedding day. Our wedding came complete with football themed wedding invitations in the form of an NFL ticket and a wedding day program that looked like an official NFL gameday program. We had football themed centerpieces, PVC goalposts, and candy-filled penalty flags. I even arranged to have our wedding photos taken at Ford Field where the Detroit Lions play.
Based on our experience, we decided to create
a sports themed wedding resource that might be of some benefit to
others who are trying to plan a similar sports themed wedding. Many
of us have been through the trials of wedding planning and our ideas
and experience might help others who intend to follow in our paths.
Crystal and I envision this site as an interactive community for the
sharing of ideas related to sports themed weddings. Please feel free
to send us your pictures and ideas in the hope of helping your
